Highway leaves the spectators with a certain kind of
incompleteness.
It took me a
while to get over the movie Highway.
As the movie comes to a conclusion something appears to be left untold,
unveiled. I reckon it’s a kind of eerie way how the film projects the idea
behind the story. This feeling is exactly the same as I had while leaving the
theater after watching Rockstar. I wasn’t enchanted but I wasn’t disappointed
as well.
Eventually as
I got rid of the prevailing sentiments, I got a clearer idea. Few segments of
the story were actually not presented efficiently. A few sequences were lacking
the appeal due to its slow pace, and created a kind of boredom. As compared to
Rockstar, this movie has a better and sturdier storyline, but a story well
conceived is not always a story well projected!
Alia Bhatt justifies
the Bhatt dynasty more than sufficiently. From playing an elegant yet an
emotional character in SOTY, to a carefree and flamboyant character in Highway,
Alia has shown a positive growth in her acting skills. Randeep Hooda, who is
already a veteran actor, also completely justifies his role and efficiently
complements the lead protagonist.
Imtiaz Ali definitely
has a story to tell through Highway, but lacks a proper way of telling. You may
seem to lose track midway, but keep at it. It leaves you with a mixed feeling
of exuberance and bafflement, and somewhere the story remains incomplete at
certain aspects.
Not to mention, A. R. Rahman has done a great job with the music and all the songs were well placed and pictured. Maahi Ve, tops my hit list.
If you don’t mind
compromising with few loose ends in the story but crave to watch brilliant
acting skills and mesmerizing landscapes then this Highway journey is for you.
